Disha said, “I wouldn’t have been here, if he hadn’t spotted me at that time”

Disha Patani’s Recognition by Karan Johar

Disha Patani, speaking at the trailer launch event of Sidharth Malhotra’s film Yodha, credited Karan Johar for recognizing her talent during her early days in modeling. She revealed that Johar first ‘spotted’ her when she was just 18 years old, stating, “If I am an actress today, it is also because of Karan Johar; because he was the one who actually spotted me when I was modeling.” She expressed gratitude for the opportunity, acknowledging that she might not have been in the industry without his initial recognition.

Karan Johar’s Response

Karan Johar, upon hearing Patani’s words, expressed his affection, saying ‘I love you’ and embracing her warmly. He also took the opportunity to address the ongoing nepotism debate, highlighting the presence of outsiders in his upcoming film Yodha. Johar stated, “To everyone who accuses us of working only with insiders… the lead is also an outsider. So are Raashii and Disha.”

Sidharth Malhotra Joins In

Sidharth Malhotra, a part of the Yodha cast, humorously interrupted the moment, saying, “What are you saying Disha, me too.” He was referring to his own debut in Johar’s film Student Of The Year.

Background on Nepotism Controversy

Kangana Ranaut had previously accused Karan Johar of promoting nepotism in Bollywood, calling him the ‘flag-bearer of nepotism’. Johar has faced criticism for predominantly working with star kids in his films, such as Alia Bhatt, Janhvi Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan, and Ananya Pandey. Johar defended his casting choices, pointing out the inclusion of outsiders in his projects like Yodha.
