As per a statement by the Defense Forces on Monday , The tunnel is designed with rooms, toilets & storage facilities for weapons & combat equipment that passed under a Gaza hospital and university by spending million of dollars.
In northern Gaza, the Israeli military brought News Media inside one of Hamas’ tunnels to show how the IDF says the terror group has burrowed itself into Gaza’s population. NBC News can’t verify what the tunnel was used for or when.
#Largest Tunnel built Hamas:
The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) has exposed Hamas’ underground system of attack tunnels built near the Erez crossing. This massive tunnel system splits into branches of tunnels, spans well over four kilometers (2.5 miles), and reaches only 400 meters (1,310 feet). This subterranean tunnel system was a project led by Mohammad Sinwar, the brother of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.
To date, the IDF has exposed hundreds of terror tunnel shafts throughout the Gaza Strip. Many are built from reinforced concrete and are equipped with electricity, ventilation, sewage, communication networks and rails, like the one we are exposing. Over the past 70 days, the IDF has exposed multiple examples where these tunnels were built under hospitals, schools, kindergartens and other sensitive sites. The IDF continues to use advanced operational, intelligence and technological means to eliminate Hamas’ network of terror tunnels across the Gaza Strip.

Criticism for Israel’s military :
- Israel’s military, intelligence and political officials have come under heavy criticism for failing to detect the attack ahead of time.
- Maj. Nir Dinar, a military spokesperson, said that Israeli security services didn’t know about the tunnel before Oct. 7 because Israel’s border defenses only detected tunnels meant to enter Israel.
“As far as I know, this tunnel doesn’t cross from Gaza into Israel and stops within 400 meters from the border, which means the indicators won’t indicate that a tunnel is being built,” Dinar said. He added that the entrance, a circular cement opening leading to a cavernous passageway, was located under a garage, hiding it from Israeli drones and satellite images.
The tunnel was a part of Hamas’ “strategic infrastructure” and would be destroyed, according to the IDF. In a video shared by the IDF, the Israeli military claimed that the tunnel was created for Hamas troop movements and as a launching point for attacks.
